Internship

The Intern will report to both Junior & Senior Analysts within the SF Information Team. The Intern will be fully integrated into the department’s functions and procedures, assisting with the production of reports. Duties will include:

  • Flash security incident alerting via Salama Fikira BREATHE
  • Research through open sources
  • Data handling and sorting of information by priority in order to support Junior and Senior Analysts

Duration: 3 months

Remuneration: The intern will be remunerated to cover living costs and transport. International interns will be provided with a return flight from country of origin and secure accommodation.

Outcome: Following successful completion, if the intern has met KPIs they may be offered full time employment in Nairobi.

Requirements:

Mandatory

  • Educated to degree level or currently completing a degree
  • Computer literate – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Impeccable attention to detail, with an eye for formatting, grammar and spelling errors

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Arabic
  • Demonstrable interest in the security situation both on and offshore East Africa
  • Background in conflict studies, history, international relations, political science, journalism, or similar
  • Legally entitled to work in Kenya

SECURITY AND POLITICAL ANALYST

The analyst will report dually to the Head of Office in Tanzania for direct management, and to the Head of Information Department in Nairobi for reporting work. The analyst will be fully integrated into the department’s functions and procedures, responsible for the production of reports, alerts, and briefings.

Duties will include:

• Flash security incident alerting and backlogging via Salama Fikira BREATHE
• Research through open sources online and in written media on political and security matters in Tanzania.
• Report writing on weekly and monthly basis, and following security incidents and political developments of concern to clients.

Duration: Full time pending successful completion of three month trial period.

REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory
• Degree in political science, security studies, international relations, journalism, or in other relevant field.
• Experience in analysis of security and political situation in Tanzania.
• Impeccable attention to detail in report writing, with an eye for formatting, grammar and spelling errors.
• Fluent in Swahili and English.
• Legally entitled to work in Tanzania.

Desirable
• Demonstrable interest in the security situation both on and offshore East Africa.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Experience in data collection and entry.
• Comfortable with geo-spatial analysis.

The Junior Analyst will report to Regional Analysts within the SF Nairobi Information Team. Duties will include:

  • Data handling and sorting of information by priority in order to support Senior Analysts

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Type: Permanent position following 3 months probation

Information Manager – West Africa

The Information Manager reports into the Managing Director, West Africa in Lagos, and the Head of Information and Research based in Nairobi. Duties include:

  • Supervision of report writing and compilation of daily, weekly, monthly and ad hoc reports
  • Leading the compilation of bespoke Threat Assessments for both Land and Maritime clients

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Type: Permanent position following 3 months probation

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Impeccable attention to detail, with an eye for formatting, grammar and spelling errors
  • Educated to degree level with at least three years of professional experience in a related field
  • Professional experience providing analysis for multinational organisations
  • Computer literate – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience managing personnel from a diverse range of backgrounds

The North Africa Analyst will work alongside regional analysts within the SF Nairobi Information Team. Duties will include:

  • Data handling and sorting of information
  • Development of BREATHE and Information products
  • Supporting the sub-Saharan team where required with report writing

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Type: Permanent position following 3 months probation

Requirements

Mandatory

  • Demonstrable experience using GIS intelligence platforms
  • Educated to Master’s level
  • Advanced knowledge of Good Governance & Development Economics
  • Demonstrated interest in the Sahel and Maghreb
  • Working knowledge of Arabic & French
  • Working knowledge of at least two sub-Saharan African languages
  • Demonstrable interest in the security situation both on and offshore North and East Africa – particularly concerning migration routes to Europe
  • Computer literate – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Impeccable attention to detail, with an eye for formatting, grammar and spelling errors

Desirable

  • Knowledge of politics in East Africa to support other analysts when required
  • Background in conflict studies, history, international relations, political science, journalism, or similar
