The Corporate Security Department

The Corporate Security Division of Salama Fikira provides tailored risk mitigation services for businesses across the continent. Clients have direct access to senior security advisors ensuring the highest standard of service and product delivery. Every product is designed to meet the specific business and asset security needs for industries operating in challenging permissive and non-permissive regions.

Job Purpose

The Security Consultant will report to the Project Manager. The Security Consultant will conduct security briefings for the client and ensure that the client’s staff are briefed on actions, tasks and potential problems. Whilst deployed they will be responsible for delivery of the security plan to ensure the security of the project and be able to make decisions and take actions in the field to ensure the project is a success. They will report on their actions as required.

Key Accountabilities

  • Act as the security lead for the project
  • Ensuring close communication with the:
    • Project Manager
    • Project Security Coordinator
    • Operations Team
  • Responsible for identifying, evaluating and assessing security risks to a project, assets and personnel
  • Ensure the client staff are aware of actions in an emergency and be able to coordinate these
  • Responsible for generating and managing reports for the project management team and Salama Fikira
  • Design and conduct training to ensure adherence to the security plan
  • Understand SF’s security services, standard operating procedures and protocols
  • To keep continually under review safety and security procedures and policies, ensuring that they are kept relevant to the evolving safety and security context of each task
  • Assist in the management of the design and implementation of project related security strategies, security policies/standards and establish a concrete course of action for their implementation and review

Desired Competencies and Required Experience

  • 5 Years military / local law authority experience
  • Security Consultancy Experience as a Team Leader or Equivalent for 18 months
  • Worked and lived in Africa
  • Excellent command of English language and local language in both written and verbal mediums
  • Good Computer skills proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Power Point and Excel are essential
  • Possess a clean and in-date driving license
  • Strong team player with logistics experience
  • An awareness of external influences, such as legislation within legal, national and HSSE frameworks
  • Stakeholder management with strong emphasis on execution and control
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience in facilitating safety and security trainings
  • Ability to travel and work in under pressure in difficult environments
  • Be of sound physical and mental health

Job Purpose

To facilitate the implementation of the Security Plan on behalf of Salama Fikira’s clientele ensuring that quality assurance and quality control are adhered through all phases of the process in order to mitigate against risk and threats faced by the client.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to 

  • Responsible for generating and managing reports
  • Responsible for security planning
  • Procuring, liaising with and managing security related services
  • Monitoring the security situation and subsequently advising the client with sound advise
  • Understand all SF security services and protocols
  • To keep continually under review all safety and security procedures and policies, ensuring that they are kept relevant to the evolving safety and security context of each location.
  • Ensure that all preparedness measures as laid out in the security guidelines are in place, in particular evacuation plans and security trees.
  • Implement and advise on in-country training for staff in relation to safety and security

Minimum Requirements

  • Security / Risk Management degree or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years management experience within the sector
  • Good understanding of international risk best practices (e.g. ISO 31000 / ISO 22301)
  • Must have strong communication skills
  • Proven track of good client/account relationship management
  • Excellent command of English language in both written and verbal mediums
  • Strong command of Kiswahili written and spoken
  • Good Computer skills proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Power Point and Excel are essential
  • Client interface, sensitivity, and hard work often at unusual hours of the day given the spread of our activities and client locations
  • An awareness of external influences, such as legislation within legal, national and HSSE frameworks
  • Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, diplomatic tact, and mature common sense

Internship – Overview

The aim of Salama Fikira’s Information Department internship is to provide an opportunity for an individual to expand their knowledge of security issues facing the region whilst gaining an on-the-ground understanding of life in East Africa’s commercial hub. The internship scheme is based in Salama Fikira’s Nairobi Headquarters and lasts for a period of three months.

Interns will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of tasks including:

  • Production of timely and accurate reporting of security-related incidents across the region.
  • Assist with the creation of weekly situation reports for countries including Kenya, Mozambique, DRC, Tanzania and Somalia.
  • Provide research support for bespoke projects assisting operations across the continent both on and offshore.

Information Manager – Overview

The West Africa Information Manager will run a small department of analysts based out of our office on Victoria Island, Lagos. The Information Manager will be responsible for daily operations, outputs and liaison between analysts in east and West Africa as well as Senior Management in Nigeria.

The Information Manager will be expected to lead the team in the production of:

  • Maritime alerting, routing advisories and port assessments for West Africa.
  • Land alerting and regular reporting such as weekly situation reports, country assessments and road routing advisories.
  • Production of bespoke intelligence products for our clients.
  • Developing and exceeding KPIs to grow the department.

Somalia Intelligence Analyst – Overview

The Somalia Intelligence Analyst will be primarily based out of the office in Nairobi, working with the rest of the Information Team and taking the lead on Somalia deliverables.  The Somalia Information Analayst will be expected produce:

Information Manager – Overview

The Information Manager – East Africa (IM-EA) will be  based out of Salama Fikira’s Nairobi HQ,working closely with the East Africa Information Team to ensure that all deliverables are produced to the highest standard. The IM-EA will be responsible for organising the team and ensuring all deliverables are met in a timely manner. Such deliverables include:

  • Flash security incident alerting via Salama Fikira BREATHE
  • Security Advisories
  • Weekly Situation Reports
  • Monthly Threat Environment Reports
  • Bespoke Research Projects

In addition, the IM-EA will be expected to lead on all bespoke reporting which falls outside of the roles of both the Kenya and Horn of Africa analysts.

Internship – Overview

The Intern will report to both Junior & Senior Analysts within the SF Information Team. The Intern will be fully integrated into the department’s functions and procedures, assisting with the production of reports. Duties will include:

  • Research through open sources
  • Data handling and sorting of information by priority in order to support Junior and Senior Analysts

Duration – 3 months.  Upon successful completion, the intern may be offered a full-time position within Salama Fikira depending upon performance.
