Type of Service: Ship Protection
Location: Indian Ocean
In order to ensure the safety of a vessel crossing the Indian Ocean High Risk Area against risk of being attacked by Somali Pirates, a ship management company contracted Salama Fikira to provide an armed ship protection team.
Salama Fikira mobilised a four man team comprising trained and experienced ex-military personnel who embarked the vessel at Muscat (Oman) with semi-automatic single shot rifles, body armour and ancillary communication and optic equipment. The team worked closely with the vessel’s master and crew to ensure that in the event of attack each person understood the actions to take and their role, in particular the Master was reassured of the Rules for the Use of Force and how any use of firearms would be controlled.
Throughout the transit the team remained in close contact with Salama Fikira’s 24- hour operations room which provided information updates as necessary. The vessel undertook a safe and secure transit of the High Risk Areas with increased crew confidence and moral.
